Benefits of Aged Earl Grey™ (loose)

Description of Image Black tea is rich in flavonoids, antioxidants that interact with and neutralize free radicals, thus preventing them from causing damage to tissues and cells in the body.

Theaflavins, a type of flavonoid, give black tea its dark color and may also help in lowering cholesterol levels and improving cardiovascular health.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our teabags are compostable and made from manila hemp cellulose (plant fiber). They are Non-GMO Verified, unbleached, and the tag is made from 100% recycled materials and soy-based inks. Our tea strings are made from cotton.

  • Numi’s tea bag wrappers* are commercially compostable (ASTM D6868 compliant/3rd party certification in progress). They are made from sustainably grown FSC® certified paper, and lined with sugarcane-based Non-GMO PLA and metalized eucalyptus layers to ensure freshness. Our plant-based wrappers have been tested to make sure they completely disintegrate and cause no eco-toxicity when they break down. You can compost the wrappers with any municipal or industrial service that accepts green waste (throw them in your green can). Unfortunately, due to the compostable freshness lining, the wrappers are not recyclable.

  • We are asked all the time how many milligrams of caffeine are in a particular cup of tea, and the honest answer is: we don’t know for sure! The environment each year, location of the bush, processing style and method of steeping all has an effect on the amount in your cup. This is why we only provide a range. We use the lower, medium, and high caffeine labeling on our packages based on past tests and the proportion of tea to ingredients in each blend. A 6 to 8 ounce cup of tea generally contains between 15 and 70 milligrams of caffeine. Remember, 8 ounces of brewed coffee has a range of 95-200mg, so you can be sure that your cup of tea will always be lower in caffeine.

  • Climate Neutral Certified is the leading independent climate action label. It gives you a way to find companies that are actively working toward a net-zero future. Demand action from all companies, and help us make carbon accountability the new normal.

Carbon neutrality means achieving a balance between emitting carbon and absorbing carbon from the atmosphere.

Achieving carbon neutrality, or climate neutrality - which counts other greenhouse gases in addition to carbon dioxide - can help accelerate the world on its path to net-zero by 2050. That's the target year for getting all of human civilization to a point where our emissions have been reduced below the amount that is absorbed through natural and man-made carbon sinks.

People have been talking about climate change for decades and doing very little about it, so the issue is more important than ever. All of the recent science suggests that we're approaching a point of no return on climate change - and political, economic, and social systems are not responding quickly enough. Humanity's decisions in the next 10 years will determine, more than ever before, how our climate changes and the extent of its impacts over the next century and beyond.

My most favorite tea, ever!!

"I’m a tea-girl, and a tea snob, if I might say. You will simply not find a better quality tea than tea made by Numi. From their sustainable practices, product care, and exceptional quality, I have never found another tea that compares. I buy their Aged Earl Gray and Jasmine green by the pound and in boxes because I drink one or the other pretty much daily. Their high mountain black tea is amazing for iced tea. I make homemade kombucha and use their gunpowder green and their breakfast blend which I buy in pound bags, to make my kombucha. I tell everyone who will listen about their tea and cannot recommend it enough. !!"

The only way to go!

"I’ve been a Numi tea, loosely, Earl Grey tea drinker for quite a while. Recently when it was out of stock, I tried another brand (Sonofdavid). After the 1st cup, I knew I had made a drastic mistake. It tasted like some sort of chemical had seeped into the leaves. The only way to go is new me loose leaf aged Earl Grey tea. !"

Numi usually offers good quality

"Numi usually offers good quality tea for its price. While the Aged Earl Grey has a pleasant flavor, it’s quite dusty. The quality of loose leaf tea is lacking. It’s as if the bergamot flavor is supposed to mask the dust and finer tea leaves. I appreciate that it’s organic, which is why I gave it a 3-star review. If it weren’t organic, I wouldn’t spend this much on tea that’s dusty and bergamot dominates the flavor instead of layering flavors on top of the tea."

I ordered the bulk Earl

"I ordered the bulk Earl Grey expecting the tea leaves to be fresher than the individual pre-packaged tea bags. The black tea used in this Earl Grey lacks depth, and what little flavor it has is bitter. For a tea advertised as using real bergamot oil, the bergamot is almost undetectable. This tea isn't any better than something off the shelves at a cheap grocery store that has gone past its "best by" date. I don't know if a return is possible, but I'll be trying."

"This tea is delicious. The only thing I would change is that I wish that the bergamot you use would have a bit more flavor. Thanks"

It doesn't taste the same

"It doesn't taste the same as the last bag of Aged Earl Grey that I ordered from Numi. I think the bergamot flavor used to be deeper. It's still delicious, but I wonder if the distributor or some aspect of the production has changed."

Every morning, when I wake up

"I start with my little ceremony of making my pseudo London Fog. This tea has been my go to for so long, I am glad I found it by the pound, less waste than the little tea bags every day. The tea has a great flavor and a good amount of caffeine. I am very happy with it."
