Our Chinese Breakfast black tea includes the flavorful golden tips of the tea leaves to create this gourmet Yunnan style of tea. It is malty and full-bodied with lingering floral notes. What distinguishes this tea from others is its perfect balance, tiger's eye color, and a vibrancy which makes it suitable for any time of day. Each bag brews 200 cups.
Black tea is rich in flavonoids, antioxidants that interact with and neutralize free radicals, thus preventing them from causing damage to tissues and cells in the body.
Theaflavins, a type of flavonoid, give black tea its dark color and may also help in lowering cholesterol levels and improving cardiovascular health.

Our teabags are compostable and made from manila hemp cellulose (plant fiber). They are Non-GMO Verified, unbleached, and the tag is made from 100% recycled materials and soy-based inks. Our tea strings are made from cotton.
Numi’s tea bag wrappers* are commercially compostable (ASTM D6868 compliant/3rd party certification in progress). They are made from sustainably grown FSC® certified paper, and lined with sugarcane-based Non-GMO PLA and metalized eucalyptus layers to ensure freshness. Our plant-based wrappers have been tested to make sure they completely disintegrate and cause no eco-toxicity when they break down. You can compost the wrappers with any municipal or industrial service that accepts green waste (throw them in your green can). Unfortunately, due to the compostable freshness lining, the wrappers are not recyclable.

We are asked all the time how many milligrams of caffeine are in a particular cup of tea, and the honest answer is: we don’t know for sure! The environment each year, location of the bush, processing style and method of steeping all has an effect on the amount in your cup. This is why we only provide a range. We use the lower, medium, and high caffeine labeling on our packages based on past tests and the proportion of tea to ingredients in each blend. A 6 to 8 ounce cup of tea generally contains between 15 and 70 milligrams of caffeine. Remember, 8 ounces of brewed coffee has a range of 95-200mg, so you can be sure that your cup of tea will always be lower in caffeine.
Climate Neutral Certified is the leading independent climate action label. It gives you a way to find companies that are actively working toward a net-zero future. Demand action from all companies, and help us make carbon accountability the new normal.
Carbon neutrality means achieving a balance between emitting carbon and absorbing carbon from the atmosphere.
Achieving carbon neutrality, or climate neutrality - which counts other greenhouse gases in addition to carbon dioxide - can help accelerate the world on its path to net-zero by 2050. That's the target year for getting all of human civilization to a point where our emissions have been reduced below the amount that is absorbed through natural and man-made carbon sinks.
People have been talking about climate change for decades and doing very little about it, so the issue is more important than ever. All of the recent science suggests that we're approaching a point of no return on climate change - and political, economic, and social systems are not responding quickly enough. Humanity's decisions in the next 10 years will determine, more than ever before, how our climate changes and the extent of its impacts over the next century and beyond.
Although our brand has a new look, our ingredients, blends and recipes have not changed.

"Ahhhhh…. what a wonderful start and reason to begin a morning. Chinese Breakast Tea certainly sets the stage for the day. That wake up boost with no after shocks like so many others have. Agree it is wonderful plain or with sweetener and milk. Simply marvelous. Hoping the replenishment will be occurring soon…🙏🫖. The bag is running low….."
"This richly flavored tea is smooth and gentle on the tongue. No bitterness. I usually take black tea with milk and sugar. With this tea though, I take it as it is. A clean taste that is perfect any time of day but perfect with breakfast. It is by far my favorite and is difficult to find anywhere else."
"Chinese Breakfast Tea is the perfect "wake-me-up" as well as a well-earned mid-morning reward. The tea is smooth, full-bodied, and delicious. I choose this strong tea because it has no bitterness or "tang" whatsoever."
"My absolute favorite favorite tea! All of the teas that I have tried of yours have been delicious but especially this one! Thank you Numi people from the bottom of my stomach 😉😉"
"My tea every morning for many years! Love the flavor!"
"This tea is smooth and has a delightful floral undertone reminiscent of Yunnan tea. Finding decent quality tea online can be challenging, especially when you’re willing to spend a high price for a few ounces. However, this tea is 16 ounces and the price is reasonable for the quality. It’s definitely worth the investment. The best part is that it’s organic! Thank you, Numi."
"My absolute favorite tea to start the day, bar none!"
"The Chinese breakfast tea tastes good😊"
"I mix the English and Chinese breakfast teas 1:1 to make my daily morning tea. The English adds a robustness and caffeine hit, while the Chinese adds a delicate floral aroma. Add in a splash of oat milk and it’s divine. It’s a shame the price has gone up so much, but thank goodness for the subscription program. In the old days I used to use the Chinese breakfast tea to make my kombucha because it was “affordable” - what a luxury that seems like now!"
"This tea is wonderful. Both robust and fragrant. Highly recommend"
Picked with this tea in mind.
